Lock any folder, without any software

18 September 2012

Many people are using software to lock their private files. That software hides the files which are locked by the user.
But in this post I will show you how to lock a folder without using any software, and the folder will not become hidden. This is the safest trick to lock your personal folders.

Suppose you want to lock the folder Tricks in d: drive which has the path D:\Tricks.
In the same drive create a text file and type:

  • ren Tricks Tricks.{21EC2020-3AFA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}

Now save this text file as “lock.bat”.

Create another text file and type in it :

  • ren Tricks.{21EC2020-3AFA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}Tricks

Now save this text file as “key.bat”.

You have now two batch files, “lock.bat” and “key.bat”. Open lock and the folder “Tricks” will change to control panel and you cannot view its contents.

Open “key.bat” and you will get back your original folder.

Note: It is safe as in case if you lose the “key.bat” file, you can create it again, but the folder name must be the same.

*Tested on Windows XP.
